There are two teams of four on the field at one time. Each player has a long, flexible mallet which is used to hit a ball. The intent is to drive the ball through the opposing team’s goal.

Polo can be played on grass (typically in the summer months) or in an indoor/outdoor polo arena.
It's a written rule that you must hold your stick in your right hand. There are many exercises you can do to help you build up strength in your left arm.
The most important rule is right of way. During play there is an imaginary line of ball. When a player has established that line, if another player crosses it causing danger or the player to slow up, a foul is committed and a penalty given. A player may use his horse to push another player away from the ball, or hook an opponent's stick.
Play can be ferocious!
